My Garden is My Space - but maybe I should share a bit of it

Fridays Child commented on my last diary entry:

"I love flowers especially brightly colored ones but unfortunately I don't have the space for it so it doesn't give me the chance to try myself on caring for them."

That comment started me thinking. The title of my website is My Garden is My Space, which it is, and that is why I enjoy it and spend so much time in it. I have to admit I do feel pride and pleasure when I see people walking past my drive and, because I have a high hedge that they cannot see over, coming back to the drive entrance to take another look.

I suppose we tend to think of gardeners as those people who pick up a spade, turn the soil and plant flowering plants, shrubs, vegetables etc. I class myself as a gardener and I also enjoy visiting gardens that are open to the public to admire the results those gardeners have achieved.

Maybe there are other classes of gardener. Those who do not have the space to become "hands on", those who used to be but are now too old or weak through illness or age and those with a handicap of some description such as arthritis. And I guess we can add to the list those who enjoy looking but feel they do not have the skills to create their own garden. Friday’s Child put herself into that category but I bet she has many skills that I do not have. That is what makes life so interesting.

Not everything I do or you for that matter in the garden will please everyone who views it. I don’t care, fashions come and go and we all have our own opinions about colour combinations. What is nice to know is that maybe my hobby might just give a little bit of pleasure to those who are not as fortunate as me.

Wow. What a wonderful post. I believe so many of us gardeners know exactly what you meant, but your post defined 'it' in its brightest light. Couldn't have put it better myself. LOL
I'm nowhere near an expert, only an enthusiast, and for that matter My space gives me the joy to learn for as long as I live. What else could I wish for? (except maybe a discount now and then in my fav nursery). Some professional gardens truly are a work of art, not some, all of them, places to be admired at forever in our memories, but what we get to experience in our own gardens is beyond expression, although greatly put into words in your post. I'm delighted to have run into your garden blog and looking forward to your future posts. Respect!

    Greetings from the wintery Mediterranean

      Hi Violet

Thank you for your kind comments. I love hearing about and reading about other peoples gardens and their experiences. Sharing thoughts and knowledge is something gardeners have done for years. I think it helps us to look at our gardens in a different light sometimes and it is surprising just how much we can learn from just one little comment

All the best from a very cold and windy UK garden!
