Lawn Mower | Mowing | Mowers and Mower Blades

Lawn mower, mowing, mowers, mower blades, why write about lawn mowing when the last thing on a gardeners mind is cutting grass?

At the first sign of spring in the garden we start to think about lawn care which includes scarifying, aerating, weeding and feeding our lawns. The weather warms even more, the lawn feed gives the grass that early season boost and we head for the shed for the lawn mower. Our lawn mowers have sat there forgotten and unloved for several months and we expect them to hover and cut like last season, start like they did when they were mowing the lawn twice a week last summer and, if they do start, trim the lawn as neatly as they did when their blades were freshly sharpened.

Off we go to have the lawn mower serviced to be told there is a waiting list of at least a month. I guess most of us think of it as getting our car serviced, we ring the garage and more often than not within a week it is into the workshop and returned the same day hopefully grateful for the attention lavished upon it. Fortunately not everyone tries to get their cars serviced at the first sign of good weather.

Get ahead of the game this year. At least remember to give the battery a boost if you have a self-starting mower (yes I have done it!), get the oil and spark plug changed, blades set etc in readiness for the busy season ahead.

On the subject of lawn mowers and timing, if you need a new mower why not start looking now? There is so much choice these days no matter what the size of your lawn and garden and if it comes to it the size of your wallet. Ride on Mowers, Cylinder Motor Mower, Push Mower, Petrol Rotary Mower and Electric Mowers including Hover types. We all have our own preferences, the main thing is to get the best type that is affordable for you and your lawn.
